Hot Water Systems
What is a passive solar hot water system?
A passive solar hot water system is a combination of a hot water heater and a solar panel. They work by placing copper or glass pipes inside the solar panel itself. Throughout the day, as the panel gains energy from the sun, the tubes are heated. Water routed to the home can then be passed through, warming the water. It is then sent to fill the home’s hot water tank, saving electricity used to create the hot water itself. A passive solar water system can supply an average of 80 to 90 percent of a household’s annual water heating needs. With nearly 1/3 of the average electric bill devoted to heating water, a solar hot water system is a positive solution to fight energy costs.
